Osteopathy for Babies

It is a common misconception that babies have no strains in their body – when birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives! There is a lot of pressure placed on the baby’s skull as it twists and turns through the bony pelvis. Even if a baby is born by caesarean they are often in unusual positions during utero, which can also leave them with uncomfortable strains throughout their head and body.

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle treatment which works by applying light pressure to allow the body to self-regulate and inherently heal strain patterns.

Osteopathy for Toddlers & Children

Children love to play! They are constantly falling, knocking, and bumping themselves… Sometimes they may cry for a minute or two – but they have an amazing ability to bounce straight back up!
Although they may only complain of pain momentarily, the strain of the impact is often retained within their body. If they continue to grow around the strains with no intervention it can often lead to problems later on in life.

Osteopathic treatment works to alleviate these strains by reducing tension through the tissues and joints to assist with guiding the body as it grows.

Some common problems in childhood that Osteopathy may help with…

Growing Pains
Developmental Delay & Retained Primitive Reflexes which can often be associated with Bed Wetting, Difficulty Learning & Concentrating, Behavioural Problems & Being Uncoordinated
Asthma, Allergies & Recurrent Chest Infections
Postural Problems & Scoliosis
Recurrent Ear Infections & Tonsillitis
Digestive Issues including Constipation, Diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel (IBS) & Soiling
Sports Injuries & Other Musculoskeletal Complaints
Headaches & Concussion

Osteopathy for Pregnancy

During pregnancy your body undergoes a lot of physical, hormonal and emotional changes. As the body adapts to a growing baby it effects the posture and often causes discomfort. The ligaments relax to prepare for labour which makes the whole body more vulnarable to strains.

Osteopathy works to eliminate the strains present in the pelvis and spine to help create space for baby and allow them to be in the optimal position for birth. This gives your body the best chance of an uncomplicated labour.

A few things Osteopathy may assist you with during your pregnancy

Lower back, Pelvic & Sacro-illiac Joint (SIJ) Pain
Nausea, Vomiting & Heart Burn
Breathing Difficulties
Varicose Veins & Haemorrhoids
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
General Aches & Pains

… & don’t forget Postpartum!

Often mothers will bring their baby in for treatment and forget about themselves. Your body just spent 9 months adapting to a growing fetus, had the stress of labour, and is now adjusting to the strains of holding, feeding and lifting a baby!

Unresolved strains from pregnancy can often lead to ongoing back issues, period problems, stress incontinence, constipation and headaches.

Osteopathic treatment works to release these strains allowing your body to be more comfortable and may help reduce the ongoing effects of childbirth later on
